Julie, known as “Fresque.”, is an illustrator and graphic designer. Her work explores the construction of identity and the way we perceive ourselves and present ourselves to others.
She mainly draws solitary characters, through which she explores inner states, emotions, and the relationship to oneself. Proportions play a central role in her practice: oversized feet, reduced heads, or shifted bodies slightly disrupt reality and draw the eye.
Color is also essential to her world. Bright and sometimes “flashy” hues bring energy and movement to her compositions. She likes to create contrasts between soft and organic elements, like flowers, and more urban and raw references, like sneakers or skateboards.
Through these plays on proportions, color, and contrast, her characters become a field for exploring what we show, what we feel, and what is at play between our inner world and the image we project.
