Vital Lordelo

Vital Lordelo (also known as Vital Courage) is a Brazilian visual artist, curator, and cultural programmer based in Lisbon, Portugal. Born in Brasília in 1984, he is a self-taught artist who has been actively working in the arts since 2007, developing a practice that blends illustration, painting, collage, printmaking (including screen printing and riso printing), street art and urban interventions, tattooing (since 2017), and digital art. Through evocative posters and public interventions, he engages with urban spaces to create silent dialogues with passersby, inviting spontaneous moments of quiet reflection and human connection.

Lordelo began his artistic journey in Brazil, where he developed his practice across multiple cities including Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, and São Paulo. He also studied advertising and journalism for a period at ESPM (Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing) in Porto Alegre, where he participated in scriptwriting and storytelling for a music video project in 2007. His early work was marked by a long-term project exploring feelings and emotions through illustration on posters. The choice of posters as a medium was intentional: using a format typically exhibited on the street reflected his desire to communicate with people and bring art within everyone's reach. This project has been ongoing for nine years and has resulted in over 30 posters, available in Portuguese, French, and English. He has participated in more than 25 exhibitions since his debut in 2007, including solo and group shows in Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, and Lisbon. Notable exhibitions include "Há Coragem Sempre Agora," a retrospective of works produced between 2007 and 2011 at the Alliance Française of Belo Horizonte in 2012; "A Rua Que Dá no Museu," his 10th solo exhibition focused on street posters and public circulation in Porto Alegre in 2015; interventions with hand-painted posters in Porto Alegre in 2009 reflecting on consumerism; participation in "Casa Cor 2010" in Belo Horizonte; and the Cow Parade in Porto Alegre. He was nominated for the Prêmio Açorianos de Artes Plásticas in 2015. His work has also been published in magazines and newspapers, including Noize, and featured in the project "+SOMA – Nike Brazil."
