An old airplane trolley, the kind once wheeled down aisles at 30,000 feet, now rolls through Lisbon's coffee shops, bookstores and galleries instead. Same wheels, same dented aluminium, same slightly-too-loud rattle on tile floors — but instead of drinks and snack trays, it's stacked with zines, posters, prints and artist books, curated by IT'S FFFRESH, a Lisbon-based independent art publisher and creative project.

For one weekend at a time, the trolley touches down somewhere new, parks itself in the middle of a normal afternoon, and turns that space into a meeting point for artists, readers and anyone who likes printed matter more than a screen.

What is OUT OF KIOSK?

It's IT'S FFFRESH, out of its usual space and into the city, with a trolley as its only fixed address.

Each landing is temporary by design. The trolley carries a hand-picked selection of independent publications, and the host venue — a café, a bookstore, a studio — becomes somewhere to browse zines, look at prints, drink a coffee, draw, read, and talk to people who care about the same things you do.

Some editions include drawing sessions or small workshops where you can spend time with the artists themselves. Others are simply a table, a trolley, and good conversation.

Call it a mobile art shop, a zine library on wheels, or a pop-up exhibition parked wherever it lands. Really it's just an excuse to get people and printed work into the same room.

Why an airplane trolley?

An airplane trolley only exists to move things from one place to another — that's its entire job, its whole design brief. This one still does that job, just grounded: no aisle, no cruising altitude, just a Lisbon sidewalk and whatever venue it's rolled into that weekend.

Instead of drink carts and snack trays, it carries independent art and printed matter from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. It still looks like it belongs on a plane — battered metal, tight latches, that unmistakable trolley shape — which is exactly why it looks so strange and so good parked next to an espresso machine or wedged between bookshelves.

It's small enough to be recognisable at a glance, light enough to actually travel, and just foreign enough to a coffee shop or gallery that people notice it before they know what's inside. Every landing puts it in a different neighbourhood, a different venue, with different artists and a different crowd gathered around it.

How OUT OF KIOSK works

Curate. IT'S FFFRESH loads the trolley with a selection of zines, posters, prints and artist books for each edition — rooted in illustration, graphic arts and independent publishing.

Land. The trolley touches down at a new Lisbon venue — a coffee shop, bookstore, gallery or studio — usually for a single weekend, wheeled in and parked like it's between flights.

Meet. Artists and visitors gather around it. Depending on the edition, that might mean a drawing session, a workshop, a reading, or just conversation over coffee with the trolley as the centrepiece. You don't need to know anything about art to join in.

Discover. Visitors dig through a changing selection of prints, zines, posters and artist books stacked inside the trolley's trays and compartments — a low-key way to find new artists and small publishing projects.

Move on. When the weekend's over, the trolley gets wheeled back out, latches shut, and heads to its next destination — OUT OF KIOSK starts again somewhere else.
